Gongqing Forest Park


     Gongqing Park is the city's second-largest park. It is located in the Yangpu District of Shanghai; Gongqing Forest Park is bordered by the Huangpu River on the east and Jungong Road on the west. The uniqueness of this park, aside from the fact that it's located far from downtown, in the north eastern part of the city, is it is a fairly large forested area. But the most important feature of this park ¨C is QUIETNESS, close your eyes and you can feel the solitude seeping in. After the hustle and bustle of Shanghai it is so peaceful that you can almost imagine you are in a forest.

     This park was built almost 50 years ago on reclaimed land and was designed from the outset to provide Shanghai with a place for enjoying various scenes of "nature" that feature hills, streams, a bamboo forest and various-themed areas that provide both scenic appeal and places to enjoy outdoor leisure activities. One popular area of the park is a lakeside grassy shore that has barbeque pits and a picnic area.

     If you want to do something more adventurous though, they have a miniature railway that can show you the many activities to do in the park. Such as rollercoaster, fairground style swings, activity park, horse-riding, go-karting, etc. In fact, there is enough to do to keep even the most boisterous person happy. Then go and have a barbecue. You can hire the stands ¨C just take what you want to eat and drink.
Getting to the park is best accomplished by taxi (or private car). You can take the Pearl Line until the last stop (Jiangwan Zhen) and then take a 20RMB taxi ride.

     Gongqing Forest Park is located at 2000 Jungong Lu, Yangpu District. It is open daily from 0600-1700 and costs 12RMB to enter.
